Prof. Paul Chamberlain  is the head of Art & Design Research Centre and the director of Lab4Living at Sheffield Hallam University, UK. Prof Chamberlain has a long prestigious track record in both industrial and academic design practice and research that explores the role of artifacts in multi-disciplinary human-centred research. He has led major projects with diverse academic specialists and commercial partners realising new knowledge that informs and is demonstrated in commercial outputs. He has applied this research in the design of medical, healthcare, special needs and  the therapeutic products and systems that have achieved international recognition through publication and awards. He has had numerous products in production that range from furniture design to products that supports health and well being. His collaborative research that informed his design work on a patented medical connector safety system has been published in the British Medical Journal. He has extensive experience of academia and industry collaboration and organised and managed over 20 live industrial projects with industrial design student groups. In addition he has set up and managed successful collaborative international projects with a number of European Universities and industrial partners for example, University of Lapland, Finland, ISPA, France, Academy of Arts Krakow, Poland. More recently ‘Living Rooms’, a project in collaboration with Chang Gung University in Taiwan funded through the British Council’s PMI CONNECT programme, enabled research exchanges and a series of participatory workshops and seminars with students and the public in Taiwan. Dissemination resulted in extensive media coverage, academic publications and high profile exhibitions (through additional funding secured by the partnership) at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Taiwan, The Building Centre London and the SIA Gallery in Sheffield. Importantly collaboration with Chang Gung continues and joint funding bids and research initiatives have enabled a sustainable partnership.

Heath Reed is a principle industrial designer at Design Futures, the commercial industrial design design consultancy based at Sheffield Hallam University, UK.
